ECCO Topical Reviews

Over the past years, ECCO has successfully published a considerable number of ECCO Guidelines on important topics of IBD. These guidelines are updated on a regular basis; and there is the strong commitment to ensure user-friendliness. Thus, ECCO is striving to contain the number of published Guidelines in order to avoid the publication of too many separate Guidelines manuscripts and to keep the information as concise as possible.

At the same time, the progress of research raises new topics, which ECCO is covering with the new series of publications “ECCO Topical Review”.  These expert reviews are distinct from guideline papers and reserved to areas with yet limited evidence-based information. They focus on a particular topic related to the diagnosis, classification, or management of inflammatory bowel diseases and are authorised by ECCO by following the respective standard operating procedures. Expert opinion consensus endorsed by ECCO is the core feature of this procedure.

1. Personal communication over indiscriminate social media

Building on the value that ECCO gives to personal communication and encounters, which has been nurturing the ECCO Family spirit throughout the past decades, ECCO has taken a conscious decision against indiscriminate social media presence. In working with its communication channels, ECCO aims for quality over quantity.

In the ever-growing competition for our attention, sustainable communication recognises the attention of individuals as a precious resource instead. ECCO therefore considers it a social responsibility to keep the number of ECCO channels contained.

By focussing the promotion of ECCO activities, educational content and publications on the ECCO Website, the ECCO-IBD App and the e-Newsletter, ECCO caters to an audience with different news platform preferences. At the same time, it limits the stressful, resource-intensive production of content, inputs and monitoring required for a professional, safe and legal online communication space.

Experts of the IBD community may use their own personal social media accounts to bring important ECCO News to their professional networks. Whilst ECCO welcomes these personal networks as a great opportunity for promotion, ECCO trusts in the personal integrity of all members of its community not to misrepresent ECCO positions or initiatives, to respect copyright and confidentiality.

Attain Sustainable IBD Care

REACHing for Sustainable Treatment

This year ECCO is focussing on the REACH goal: Attain Sustainability; working towards sustainable delivery of care: prevention, optimal treatment and efficient use of resources in the treatment of IBD.

Starting at ECCO’25 with the Congress Theme of “Sustainability in IBD”, the Scientific Programme addresses sustainability from tailored strategies, and the use of biomarkers and AI tools in monitoring, diet and greener tech, as well as sustained remission.

Learn more about sustainability in health treatment and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals for 2030 in an awareness-raising poster display, where ECCO, together with our Corporate Members, is presenting their sustainability efforts and targets - to be found in the A Gallery - City Cube, Messe Berlin and open to all.

The ECCO Congress itself is organised on sustainable principles; mindful, well-managed use and re-use of resources, for a nonetheless inviting and inspiring professional event you always enjoy with ECCO.

Stay with ECCO as we REACH together.
